Modern drone technology is opening up new avenues for savvy Australian real estate agents and vendors to boost the profile of a property through showing it (and the surrounding area) from a completely different angle.
“Drones are great for allowing us access to a storytelling aspect. It lets the sellers differentiate themselves and it engages with people, attests Janelle Williams, from Campaign Track, an Australian-based real estate marketing company.
Drones are already delivering pizzas, some are monitoring whale colonies and others are being used to help combat crime, now this technology is making its mark in the real estate market and demand is rising.
“The UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) industry has grown at a tremendous pace over the last 2 years. We were one of the first 30 businesses to have a license to fly commercially in Australia, there are now over 230 licensed businesses,” said general manager of Swarm UAV, Ryan Hamlet.

Give the prospective buyer a clear picture of exactly where the house is situated on the block, in relation to nearby road accesses, shops, schools and public transport.
Identify if any water sources such as dams are on the land.
Enhance the sales kit. The inclusion of an aerial drone video draws attention due to its uniqueness. It can heighten interest in the property’s profile and create deeper engagement.
Widen the scope and showing-off more of the property in a different light, not otherwise possible using a normal video camera and equipment.
“It opens up the scope of showing a property off at its best,” explained Jim Aitken, managing director of Jim Aitken + Partners.
According to Mr Hamlet, the property sector is set to ramp up adoption of drone technology.
“We have carried out over 200 real estate jobs in the last 12 months & with our Sydney & Brisbane teams set for real growth, that number could easily triple over the next year,” he projected.
